How do I add a second IHSS provider for my child?
If you want to add a second IHSS provider, such as a family member, friend, or third-party professional, the onboarding process is the same for all IHSS providers. Then, you need to make sure the new provider and your child are connected via the online portal at www.etimesheets.ihss.ca.gov. You can either add a provider via the portal or contact your county's IHSS office to let them know you hired a new provider.
Your child will have a maximum number of hours they can receive per month, and you and the second provider must divide those hours between yourselves when claiming time on your timesheets. Depending on your county, IHSS may require you to allocate hours via form SOC 838, meaning each provider will not be able to bill more hours than indicated on the form. Some counties advise recipients to allocate all of the hours to both providers, and the recipient is responsible for making sure that the two providers together do not exceed the total authorized hours. However, each county handles this differently, so you should confirm with your case worker.
