Avaz AAc is a “picture & test-based” AAC app offering both easy access and customization. Vocabulary is organized by category and assigned one of 3 levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Regardless of what level the user is at, essential words are available upon download. Users can also add phrases and words to the app’s favorites folder for easy access, or can further customize the experience by adding or changing icon images. Dialogue AAC

This AAC app, created by PRC-Saltillo, enables users to “use your voice” and is geared towards adults. Dialogue AAC partnered with The Voice Keeper, allowing users to create a unique synthesized voice so they have something personal to express themselves with. The app also features pre-stored sentences as well as the option to add personalized ones. There are several settings that accommodate visual and motor needs, such as button selection and release, head tracking, switch scanning, and more. Flexspeak

Flexspeak was created by AAC users and SLPs, with one of the co-founders being neurodivergent themselves. In addition to having a neurodivergent speech therapist on staff, they also have 2 AAC User Consultants on staff helping to create an app that is both truly helpful and innovative. Flexspeak stands out with features like Translate Mode, phrase prediction, remote editing, over 25 languages, and group folder sharing in addition to custom vocabulary. LAMP Words For Life

Another contribution from PRC-Saltillo, LAMP Words for Life provides a structured experience free of extensive customization or set up. Its library of pre-programmed vocabulary is introduced through 3 distinct levels: 1-Hit (82 core words), Transition (205 words), and Full Vocabulary (4,000 words & personalization). While their library of pre-programmed vocabulary is large, the app also enables users to add personalized vocabulary. Their custom word lists and Word Finder features help manage a large library and creates an experience free of distraction and visual clutter. Users can further personalize the experience by creating a voice unique to them, allowing them to express themselves and their identity. LAMP also offers guides and support individual training to help ease the learning process. Predictable

Predictable, a text to speech app, is one of Therapybox’s many projects and was created to give “a voice to people” who struggle to speak or are non-speaking. Users can choose a pre-made voice or create their own unique voice with the help of 11ElevenLabs. The app also features smart word prediction, 43 languages, instant translation, customization, accomodation settings like head tracking, and “barrier-free” access to ChatGPT directly in the app. Users can add their own phrases, change automatically assigned symbols to custom ones, create their own shortcuts, and customize how they access the keyboard and grid screens. Proloquo offers additional accomodations built in such as assistive touch, head tracking, eye tracking, switch control, and more. Proloquo Coach was created specifically for caregivers and features in-app support from AAC experts as well as step-by-step guidance to learning AAC. Proloquo4Text’s user interface design sets it apart with its customizable single-screen layout that allows users to “keep everything at hand,” making communication feel more natural and effective. This layout keeps predictive text up on one side and Quick Blocks on another, which is a collection of pre-made or custom phrases. Scene & Heard Pro

This app, another one of Therapybox’s projects, supports individuals with autism, learning differences, or “speech challenges” by helping them communicate via visual scenes. The app is designed to help users of all ages “better express themselves, learn new skills, and navigate their daily lives with more confidence.” Each scene type fosters learning, reading, or communication skills while also enabling self expression. This includes photos, videos, grid scenes (multiple images) for communicating preferences, or a combination of images and symbols (hybrid). The app also features a visual timetable, communication books, scene sharing, and Transition to Literacy which helps build early reading skills. Like Predictable, Scene & Heard is a part of Therapybox’s 50% off sale. Assistiveware’s simPODD is an AAC app designed specifically for individuals using a Pragmatic Organization Dynamic Display (PODD) communication system.
