Can an IEP provide training for parents?

Published: Feb. 25, 2022Updated: Mar. 17, 2022

An IEP can provide training to assist parents in understanding the needs of their child and help parents acquire the necessary skills that will allow them to support the implementation of the IEP. This support can take the form of counseling or training, depending on the skill(s) the parent needs to acquire.

Training or counseling for a parent should be explicitly written into the IEP, in the Supplementary Aids and Services section, in addition to any other supports the child receives.
