Parent Question

Can educational services be included in my child's Self-Determination budget?

Published: Nov. 1, 2024

If you want to make educational services a part of your child's spending plan, you may wonder about the such as coding for courses or tutors.

Note that how you can include educational services in your child's SDP spending plan depends on your Regional Center. Coding can be under social-rec activities, which a lot of Regional Centers are funding. Whether tutoring can be included depends on the Regional Center.

It can be helpful to get denial from generic resources (school, insurance, IHSS) before you ask Regional Center to fund it, but your request could still get denied. However, it's important to establish your child's needs in this area regardless in case these services can be funded later.
