Can I switch independent facilitators during the transition to the Self-Determination Program (SDP)?
If you're transitioning to the Self-Determination Program (SDP) for Regional Center services, an independent facilitator will guide you throughout the process of developing a person-centered plan, budget, and spending plan. You can switch independent facilitators (IF) at any time, but what if you're mid-transition to SDP and want to switch IFs?
Self-Determination Consultant Iris Barker recommends that you lean on your Regional Center service coordinator for support switching IFs. Tell them your IF isn’t working, and ask them for help figuring out how much work the IF has already done and charged for.
Regional Center will only fund 40 hours of support for the transition to SDP after the person-centered plan. If you need more hours because the first IF wasn’t good, you can ask for an exception to that number of hours.
