Can my adult child stay on my insurance and still receive Medi-Cal?
Published: May. 16, 2025Updated: Nov. 5, 2025
If your child has turned 18 and you're submitting an application for Medi-Cal on their behalf, you're likely to see a question asking whether the applicant already has insurance. If your adult child is still on your insurance (or their other parent's insurance), they can still apply for Medi-Cal as secondary coverage. Most private insurance plans allow dependents to stay covered until they turn 26, no matter where they live or how they manage their finances.
