Parent Question

Can my child get a substitute aide from a non-public agency?

Published: Oct. 31, 2025Updated: Oct. 31, 2025

If your child's school contracts with an outside company or non-public agency (NPA) for your child's aide, the school is still responsible for providing a substitute aide if your child's regular aide can't attend. Ultimately, the school district is responsible to make sure there is an aide if it's written into your child's IEP.

You can meet with the school to come up with a plan for what to do when the aide is going to be out, i.e. if the NPA is providing the sub or if the school is. If the NPA sends a sub, you can let the agency and school know that you want to be notified when the NPA aide is not coming to school.
