Can my child's Regional Center personal assistant drive them to social-rec activities or be a 1:1 aide?
Whether Regional Center will authorize a personal assistant (PA) for your child during social-rec activities depends on your Regional Center. Some do not give PA hours to minors, so check your Regional Center's purchase of service standards.
You also need to know the policy of the payroll agency that hires the PA. Some of them prohibit driving.
You could ask for hours that are explicitly for social-rec participation. If the child needs a 1:1, that can be part of the social-rec request. Or if the hours are already allocated, you can ask for written permission to use them for that purpose.
Note that if your child has IHSS, you could have the IHSS provider claim driving time to therapies if your child has that allotted.
