Can Regional Center help when my child elopes?
If your child wanders or elopes while in public, you may wonder if there are Regional Center services that can help prevent elopement and keep your child safe.
If your family is open to ABA, you could look into having behavioral support for community outings to help address the elopement behaviors.
Some parents wonder about a personal assistant, which isn't always granted for minors but may be in some cases. PA services can be long term when there are extending circumstances, such as having two children with high support needs in the home.
Note that IHSS won't give hours for playground support or community integration; it's for remaining safely in the home. If Regional Center tries to deny support and tells you to ask IHSS first, you can remind them of this.
