Do I have to renew IHSS protective supervision or paramedical services every year?
Renewal of protective supervision or paramedical services is not automatic. IHSS may not ask you to renew it every single year, but they usually will every couple of years. IHSS will let you know; when they send you the notification that you have your annual visit, they will include a new copy of the paramedical services or protective supervision form, and it will be checked on the form that you need to have an updated one.
As far as the renewal process, Public Benefits Specialist Lisa Concoff Kronbeck says that some of it can depend on on how long it's been since the last time you submitted certain forms. If there's a child who has a lot of paramedical services, IHSS will often want a nurse to come out with the case worker and go over those with you. It's not going to be as intensive as the first visit. Sometimes they'll call you for the annual recertification and then just pop by your house to see your child. It depends on the county and how they do things.
