Do I need to hire multiple IHSS providers for my child?
Published: Mar. 11, 2026Updated: Mar. 11, 2026
We have heard from some Undivided families that their IHSS worker says they need to hire two or three providers if their child receives the maximum IHSS hours (283). However, there is no requirement on provider numbers as long as each provider does not go over the maximum hours. The maximum hours an IHSS provider can work is 70:45 per week for one recipient; if they have two clients, then the maximum is 66 per week. How many IHSS providers to hire is up to you, or you may decide to become your child's parent provider.
