Do I need to include my child's IEP with their IHSS application?
It is not uncommon for IHSS to ask to see the applicant's IEP to get a better understanding of their limitations.
Some parents go through the IEP and highlight everything that supports the need for IHSS services and put sticky notes on the pages where they highlighted. You can tell the worker you wanted to be helpful. Most workers won’t look through the entire thing; they are busy. They use the IEP to help justify the need for services.
It's only concerning if the IEP has language that might be concerning, like "aggression" or "self-direction," since those terms can mean something different in an IEP than for IHSS.
