Does conservatorship affect Regional Center services?

If your child is nearing age 18, you may wonder if conservatorship would have an impact on your child's Regional Center services, whether traditional or in the Self-Determination Program. In general, no. If you decide to file for conservatorship, your child should continue their services with you as the decision maker.

If you do not file for conservatorship, your child might need to sign paperwork with the Regional Center at age 18 allowing you to stay involved in their services. Families who have power of attorney paperwork can give Regional Center a copy.
