Does my child need a Medi-Cal waiver if they have SSI?

Published: Jan. 29, 2026Updated: Feb. 23, 2026

If your child receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI), they will automatically be eligible for Medi-Cal. This means you do not need to obtain a Medi-Cal waiver for a child who is receiving SSI.

To learn more about who qualifies for SSI, see our article Social Security Administration (SSA)/Supplemental Security Income (SSI) 101.
