How can I cover diapers with Medi-Cal?

Published: Sep. 8, 2025Updated: Feb. 23, 2026

If your child uses incontinence supplies like diapers or barrier cream, you may be able to get them funded through Medi-Cal. You will first need to obtain a prescription from your child's doctor, and the prescription should be specific to each type of supply needed. Make sure that the supplies you're seeking are provided by a company that contracts with Medi-Cal.

If you have both private insurance and Medi-Cal, you should try to get coverage from private insurance first under your DME benefit; if you get a denial, you can bring your denial letter to Medi-Cal.
