How can I get AAC training funded through SDP?

Published: Feb. 25, 2026Updated: Feb. 25, 2026

You can create an IPP goal to get AAC training funded under parent training. When you request it from your Regional Center, explain why it's needed and how it's going to be helpful for your child. You will likely need to get denial letters from your insurance to show that insurance doesn't cover it and the school district won’t provide it. School may give your child an AAC device, but they might not provide any substantial ongoing training. For AAC to be successful, parents need training, and the child needs training. You just really have to make a case for it. Be ready to specifically talk about how this would support your child.
