How can I stay involved in the IEP process after my child turns 18?
Published: Mar. 6, 2025
Once your child turns 18, they will be considered a legal adult, and the school does not have to involve you as the parent in the IEP process. To make sure you can continue to participate, ask the school if they have a form you and your child can sign granting you permission to stay involved in the IEP process. Some schools do not have forms, so instead you can write a letter that you and your child both sign.
