Parent Question

How can I write puberty support into my child's IEP?

Published: Apr. 30, 2025Updated: Jun. 6, 2025

Undivided has an entire article about how you as a parent can support your child through puberty, but you may also wonder what kind of support is available from the school.

If your child needs assistance learning about when and where certain behaviors are appropriate as they mature, that would be part of a behavior support plan in your child's IEP. The school should do a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) any time there’s a behavior that we don't want happening or we want redirected. The IEP team will use the FBA results to create a behavior plan that is implemented at school. The behavior plan could help teach your child what to do instead of a challenging behavior.
