How do I call an emergency IEP meeting?
Published: Apr. 18, 2025Updated: Jun. 6, 2025
If you want to urgently address a concern at school, you should reach out to your IEP team. However, keep in mind there is no such thing as an "emergency IEP." Regulations say that the school has 30 days to hold an IEP meeting from when a parent requests it, and there's no way to change that regulation by saying it's an emergency; they still have 30 days.
You can let your IEP team know that it's urgent in writing, and that might nudge them to move faster. If you have safety concerns, definitely include in writing that you want to have meeting as soon as possible because you have concerns about safety.
