How do I get an insurance denial letter?

Published: Jul. 26, 2024

If you are seeking funding from Medi-Cal or Regional Center, you may be required to prove that your private insurance already denied the request.

Undivided Director of Health Plan Advocacy Leslie Lobel says, "The provider could submit a test claim to the primary insurance and get their own denial. The provider will know how to submit a claim as a test."

Another option is to get a benefit exclusion letter. This is a letter that says something is not covered under the policy. You can call your health plan to see if there is or isn't a benefit.

If you still can't get proof of a denial and your insurance is through an employer, going to the employer's insurance broker can help. This is the person the business works with to purchase their health insurance for the employee.
