Parent Question

How do I get my child transferred to another school with better services?

Published: Jan. 9, 2026Updated: Jan. 21, 2026

If you want to enroll in a different district, you will need to move and have a new home address. Your IEP will move with you to the new school, and the school will do its best to match your current IEP. You will have an IEP meeting within 30 days, and the new school will suggest possible changes.

If you want to enroll in a new school in the same district, you can ask the IEP team to place you in the school.

It's important to make sure everything is documented in the IEP. For example, if a teacher says, "X service is already embedded in the classroom, so we don't need to add it to the IEP," you'll want it to be explicitly written in the IEP so that the new school knows to provide it.
