How to join Special Education Parent Advisory Councils

A Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) is a group of parents who work with a school district to provide input and improve special education for students. Not all school districts have them, or your child might attend a charter school where their isn't one, so you may be interested in starting your own.

Education advocate Karen Ford Cull recommends this booklet on the Parent Center Hub website for detailed information on SEPAC best practices that you can share with your local administrator. If district doesn’t let you start a SEPAC, then you can start a special education PTA, or request a special education chair as part of existing PTA.
