Parent Question

How often should I update my child's person-centered plan (PCP)?

Published: Aug. 6, 2025Updated: Oct. 16, 2025

If your child participates in the Self-Determination Program, you may be periodically asked by your Regional Center service coordinator to update their person-centered plan (PCP). There is no specified timeline for updates, unlike with an annual IPP.

You can update your child's PCP any time you feel it is needed, such as if your child has new support needs that you want to make sure get addressed.

If you're worried about your child's needs changing in the near future, Self-Determination Consultant Iris Barker recommends having a conversation with your team closer to when your child's needs actually change, and you can add extra services then. A sample goal: "To be able to participate in XYZ program with the support they need."
