I got approved for IHSS protective supervision, so why does NOA shows hours being deducted.

Published: Feb. 27, 2026Updated: Feb. 27, 2026

Some parents are concerned to see about 31 hours being deducted each week on their IHSS NOA. If you look at the column that says the number of hours you need, it’s going to say 168 because that’s how many hours are in a week. However, IHSS can’t provide more than 45 hours a week of protective supervision (195 per month). Those 31 hours per week are the time your child is at school and someone else is providing supervision. The 31 hours are being deducted from that 168, not from the total number of hours that you’re actually getting for protective supervision.
