If I am pulling my child from public school and enrolling in private school, should I sign the IEP and reject services or just reject the entire IEP?
In California, which allows partial signing of the IEP, the general advice is that you should sign the IEP in agreement that your child is eligible. You can disagree with everything else (placement, support, services) that is not appropriate for your child. You can accept eligibility and then decline the placement and services. If in the future you want to return to public school, you would have to start the whole process over if you disagree that your child is eligible.
Note that if you want to try to get the school district to fund placement or services at a private school, then you need to have an attorney to help you sign the IEP in a very specific way that preserves your rights. You can learn more in our article about private school placement.
