If I homeschool my child, do I need to keep their IEP with the district?
Published: May. 19, 2026Updated: May. 19, 2026
If you homeschool your child through a PSA in California, you can choose to keep their IEP open with the school district. Even though you won't be able to IEP services, it's typically worth keeping the IEP open for these reasons:
- The district will perform triennial assessments.
- Your child might need an IEP to prove the need for accommodations in college.
- Your child might return to public school.
Simply request the annual IEP meeting every year a month or two before the due date (or two to three months before the due date for triennial IEPs).
