Is any AAC training available for parents and kids through Regional Center?
Typically, parent training should be written into the IEP. However, there are other sources for AAC training. For example, if your child is homeschooled and AAC resources are not available through the school district, you can ask the Regional Center to fund assistive technology assistance for accessing home and community. You could say that you and your child need help communicating, leaving school out of it completely.
It's easier to request AAC training for parents if your child has Self-Determination Program funding; it's less common with traditional Regional Center funding. You could ask the Regional Center for an assessment for assistive technology, but it's not always necessary as the Regional Center may simply be willing to provide the support.
Private SLPs who work with AAC can also train parents.
