Is there a limit on how much someone can earn per year and still qualify for SSI?
If your child receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI), yes, there's a limit to how much they can earn per year and retain their SSI benefits. The SSA website does have the exact dollar amounts, which increase each year. However, there are ways to work and still receive SSI.
Undivided Transition Specialist Nicole Morris says, "I recommend anyone who is going through the Department of Rehabilitation for employment request a Work Incentives Planning Counseling session. The DOR offers this service for free. The person the client works with will help them figure out how much they can work to maximize their potential overall income. Losing SSI altogether is not necessarily a bad thing. As long as the person is qualified for SSI due to disability, they will still receive Medi-Cal benefits unless they make in upwards of 56k a year."
