Parent Question

Is there a way to expedite the IEP assessment process?

Published: Sep. 19, 2025Updated: Sep. 19, 2025

If you have concerns about your child's progress at school, it's understandable that you want to get them support as quickly as possible. If you submit a request in writing for an assessment, the school must give you an assessment plan within 15 days, and then the assessments and IEP meeting have to be held within 60 days. There isn't a way to speed up the timeline for the IEP assessment process, but you can talk to your child's teacher(s) and any service providers in the meantime about your concerns and potential solutions. It's also a good idea to talk to your child's doctor. You can bring provider reports to the IEP meeting, so getting insights and recommendations from your child's service providers and doctor now can be helpful in participating in the meeting and understanding what will be helpful for your child.
