Is there a way to get a case manager for my private insurance?
If you are looking for help with your health plan, Undivided Director of Health Plan Advocacy Services Leslie Lobel says that case managers are limited but can be helpful for some families. Sometimes, they are automatically assigned to a family based on a medical event. It's nice to be able to have a direct phone number to someone who is familiar with your case and can help in some areas. Nurse case managers can be helpful in some cases.
You can always ask for a supervisor at the insurance company, and you may be able to get a direct number to someone there for future inquiries.
HR can sometimes get you a direct number to someone at the insurance.
For some health plans, there are third parties that can help, usually with employer-based plans where the customer service is provided by an outside agency. You can call customer service at your insurance plan and ask if there is a nurse case manager who can be assigned to your child.
Sometimes, they can provide information about services that you have never heard of. Which case manger you get and what the scope of the program is can vastly affect the support you receive, but it can be a good resource and place to brainstorm for support.
