Sample Letter to Request an IEP Meeting

Published: Nov. 8, 2024Updated: Nov. 8, 2024

Although an IEP team typically meets at least once a year, you may find you need to meet sooner. As a parent, you can call an IEP meeting at any time to discuss your child’s IEP and have a voice in it.

You can use this Google doc as a reference for your written request, or check out the example text below:

RE: Mary Jones

Dear Ms. Smith,

I am writing to request an IEP meeting to be held as soon as possible. I have a number of concerns that I would like the team to discuss, including:

  • Speech services/progress
  • Updating goals
  • Home communication

Please arrange for the IEP team to meet. You can contact me at Kathy@memail.com or (310) 333-300I as needed.

Sincerely,
Kathy Jones
