Parent Question

Should I wait for pending Regional Center requests to be finished before switching my child to SDP?

Published: Nov. 1, 2024

If you have pending requests for services that Regional Center hasn’t provided yet, you may wonder whether you should ensure that those services are in place before starting the process of transitioning your child to the Self-Determination Program.

According to Undivided Self-Determination Consultant Iris Barker, if there are still assessments that need to be completed, you may want to move forward with what you have now. Assessments and the corresponding service requests can take a long time. Once you get the assessments back, you can request what is still needed.
