What do I do about my child's IEP if we are moving to a new state?
Some parents worry about how to transition their child's IEP to a new school when they move from one state to another, but the process is treated much the same as moving from one school district to another even in the same state.
When parents move, they should take the IEP to their child's local school (their "home" school that they would attend if they didn't have an IEP). The school district must place the child in the closest placement they have available to the current IEP. Then, an IEP meeting will happen within 30 days to decide if any changes need to be made to the placement or services.
