Parent Question

What do I do if the school keeps asking me to pick my child up from school early?

Published: Jul. 31, 2024

If a child is being sent home from school for anything other than illness, it is considered a suspension. After ten times, it is legally considered a change of placement, which the school cannot do without parent consent.

Schools often call parents for pickup due to a child's behavior. However, the school should be coming up with a behavior plan to manage the behavior. The plan should not just be to send the child home. For more information, see our article How Are Students with Disabilities Protected from Discriminatory Discipline?
