Parent Question

What if IHSS cancels my child's services because there was a mixup about my in-home visit?

Published: Jan. 15, 2026Updated: Jan. 21, 2026

We have heard from families who unexpectedly get their IHSS hours terminated because they weren't able to reschedule an in-home visit in a timely manner.

Go to acms.dss.ca.gov and file an appeal immediately. Give them just a few sentences about what happened. Very importantly, check the box that says benefits will stay the same while they are working through the appeal. This will ensure that the current hours continue while the appeal is being processed. What will most likely happen (no guarantee, of course) is that when the home visit is done, the worker will input it all in the system, it simply will work itself out, and you will get a letter asking you to drop your appeal. By doing an the appeal on the website today, everything should stay the same as it is now.
