What if the district only offers group speech therapy?
Published: Apr. 17, 2026Updated: Apr. 17, 2026
If the school only offers your child group speech therapy but you feel they need 1:1 speech therapy, you can request it. Let the school know in writing that you disagree with how speech is being represented in the IEP as it does not reflect your student's individual needs. You can state that your child needs individual speech services to access education and so speech should be on the IEP services section as a direct service.
Note that if speech is for articulation, then 1:1 is appropriate. If it is for language, then group therapy is appropriate.
