Parent Question

What if the school can't find a 1:1 aide for my child?

Published: Apr. 26, 2024

If your child is eligible for a 1:1 aide but school can't find an aide, they might use a temporary group aide to satisfy the IEP. It depends on how it is written in the IEP, but likely a group aide does not satisfy the IEP as usually it is written as 1:1 or "intensive individual services" or similar.

The next step would be to formally write the school, in a way that is provable it was received such as by certified mail, a polite letter asking for a plan for when the aide will be provided. You could ask the school to contract with an outside agency to provide the aide on the IEP until the district can provide one themselves.
