Parent Question

What if there are no in-network Medi-Cal providers for my child?

Published: Dec. 13, 2024

Medi-Cal won't cover out-of-network providers, so what do you do if there are no in-network providers available to see your child?

Public Benefits Specialist Lisa Concoff Kronbeck says that one option is to file a grievance with the managed care plan to ask them to cover somebody out of network because there are no suitable providers in network. You will have to establish that there is nobody in network who can provide the care your child needs, such as a specialist for a rare condition.

Lisa says, "It definitely is possible for the managed care plan to contract out of network if there is nobody in network. However, the out-of-network provider will likely have to agree to the Medi-Cal rate."
