Parent Question

What is twice exceptional (2E)?

Published: Sep. 4, 2025Updated: Sep. 4, 2025

Twice exceptional or 2E commonly refers to a child with a disability who also identifies as a gifted learner. They might be intellectually gifted while simultaneously having a learning disability. For example, a child may have autism or ADHD and need support in school, but given the right support, they thrive academically or in another area. This support may come in the form of an IEP, a 504 Plan, or placement at a private or non-public school.
