What is Workability?
Workability is a program designed to help individuals with disabilities prepare for and obtain employment. Workability typically provides supportive, short-term, paid work opportunities.
There are multiple different Workability programs:
Workability I is run and funded by the CDE, and locally by school districts or joint authority agreements. Students who are in high school may have access to Workability as early as age 14; talk to your IEP team about opportunities that are available at your child's school.
Workability II programs are run and funded by the DOR in collaboration with local agencies, adult education programs, and Regional Occupational Programs/Centers. Individuals who are eligible for DOR Vocational Rehab services can talk to their case worker about opportunities.
Workability III is a collaboration between the DOR and local community colleges.
Workability IV is a collaboration between the DOR and certain universities.
