Parent Question

What should I do if the school is taking a long time to implement my child's IEP services?

Published: Jul. 31, 2024

If the school has agreed to provide services such as OT but these services are taking a while to implement, the parent should keep following up with the school an the district's special education department.

Any hours the student is missing will have to be made up. If the parents are okay with that, they can keep waiting, but if they feel that their kids is really missing out, they can push the district to pay for private services.

Sometimes, IEP services are delayed due to staff shortages. It can get hard on the kid because what the school will suggest is doubling up on sessions once they find someone. That means the child will miss more class time each week.

The parents can ask the school (in writing) what their plan will be for the owed compensatory sessions and go from there.
