When can parents get IHSS?

Published: May. 5, 2022Updated: Aug. 9, 2025

In the IHSS program, parents can either receive funding for outside help to provide paramedical and protective services, or parents can be paid to provide this care for their own children. Check out this clip to hear our Public Benefits Specialist Lisa Concoff Kronbeck explain what you might qualify for.

Note: some of the rules regarding parent providers changed effective February 20, 2024.

For more information about the program, read our article, In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS): Learn the Essentials. You can also watch Lisa break it down in a few clips!
