Where can I find a summer camp for my child with a disability?
Be sure to check out our annual roundup of summer camps, classes, and programs that accommodate kids with disabilities. You can find programs that offer STEM activities, visual arts, sports, therapy, day camp, overnight camp, and more.
Our camp lists are based in California. If you can't find a summer camp near you on our lists and you're interested in a disability-friendly camp, Undivided Lead Researcher Adriana Roze recommends getting in touch with your local theater community, saying that performing arts communities often provide a supportive and inclusive environment. If your child enjoys singing, acting, dancing, playing an instrument, or making visual art, the places your child is drawn to can often be the places that support them the best. If you have a local community theater that performs musicals or plays, or a local music conservatory, they often host summer events like workshops for kids or musical theater camps in supportive environments.
For inclusive STEM camps, you can try checking camps with multiple locations across California or even nationwide like Code Ninjas, Camp Integem, Galileo Camps, Bio Nerds, and Destination Science to see if there's a location close to where you are.
It’s important to find a good fit for your kid to make sure they're being supported, and you also want to find a camp that your child is interested in. When you’re trying to sign up, we recommend speaking to the camp director to ask pertinent questions about the camp. Check out our article here for questions to ask a camp director.
