Will IHSS automatically assess for protective supervision or do I need to apply?
Undivided Public Benefits Specialist Lisa Concoff Kronbeck says that IHSS case workers are supposed to look at protective supervision eligibility during initial and annual assessment if a child has cognitive impairments, but the reality is that they often don't, so parents need to ask for it. If you would like your child to be assessed for protective supervision eligibility, make sure to communicate this to your case worker. You may want to prepare the necessary paperwork before your home visit so that it's ready to turn in. (Assessing for protective supervision requires having your child's doctor fill out form SOC 821.)
