Can my child get DIR Floortime from Regional Center instead of ABA?
If Regional Center agrees to fund behavioral therapy for your child, note that you will need to choose between DIR Floortime and ABA therapy; Regional Centers will not fund both because it is considered a duplication of services.
Some Undivided families have been told by their Regional Center that they should do ABA before Regional Center will fund Floortime; their reasoning is that ABA will help the child manage the behaviors so they can learn, and then Floortime or adaptive skills services will help the child learn the skills.
If you are told by your Regional Center that Floortime is not appropriate for older children, you may want to call it Adaptive Skills with a Floortime approach. This can include daily living skills, communication, and executive functioning support.
