Can the school request home observations of my child?
If you bring concerns to your IEP team that aren't being addressed at school, for example if your child performs much better at home than at school, it's possible that the school psychologist may want to come to your house and observe. Note that home observations are not assessments (although assessments typically have a school observation component). Allowing the school staff to come in and observe may help the IEP team understand your child's needs and develop appropriate goals and supports.
It's possible that more than one staff member will come to your home to observe. Some schools have a policy of not allowing staff to go in homes alone for everyone's safety. Note also that an IEE provider has the right to the same access that the school provider had.
If you do not want to allow the in-home observation, talk to your IEP team about other potential solutions.
