Does supported decision-making or conservatorship affect IHSS protective supervision?
If you are deciding between supported decision-making or conservatorship for your adult child, you may wonder if the decision will affect your child's ability to qualify for IHSS protective supervision.
Some parents in the Undivided community have adult children who use supported decision-making and still have IHSS protective supervision. Just because they need help making decisions in aspects of their life with supported decision-making doesn't necessarily mean that they are self-directing and can be safe without supervision. Protective supervision is not based on what legal arrangements are in place but on the individual's need.
Your IHSS worker may ask if your adult child is conserved (under conservatorship), but that has more to do with who is allowed to sign the documents.
