How do I get emergency respite from Regional Center?
For out-of-home crisis respite, you’d need to start with your service coordinator. If they cannot be reached, contact your Regional Center and ask for the service coordinator of the day.
For additional regular respite hours based on known or planned extenuating circumstances (e.g. you need more hours due to a parent’s upcoming surgery), make the request in writing. Give your service coordinator a timeline for when you need the services, why they are necessary, and how long they need to be in place.
For mental health crisis response for a Regional Center client, many Regional Centers are working with the START program for crisis response. It might be something that you want to look into ahead of time if you anticipate this could be an issue.
