How do I teach my child functional skills like getting dressed?

Published: Mar. 2, 2022Updated: Aug. 21, 2023

As parents, we want our kids to gain independence with their morning rituals: all the little tasks we need to do to be healthy and prepared to face our day. Here is some advice from a special education teacher:

  • Read stories
  • Break tasks into small steps
  • Use visual reminders
  • Practice
  • Use small rewards or reinforcers
