If I enroll my child in a Medi-Cal managed care plan, can I keep my same in-home nurse and other providers?
For children with Medi-Cal, in-home nursing is a covered benefit if it's medically necessary. (You can find more information in our article about in-home nursing If you are transitioning from fee-for-service Medi-Cal to a managed care plan, you can ask the Medi-Cal managed care plan if they’re willing to contract with your current nursing agency.
Similarly, if there are specific specialists you want to see, you can ask for “continuity of care.” This means if you are seeing someone who accepts fee-for-service Medi-Cal, you can ask the managed care plan to contract with them for up to 12 months at the fee-for-service rate or the managed care rate, whichever is higher. Ask providers if they contract with your Medi-Cal plan; be sure to ask their billing department or insurance coordinator directly because even if you find lists online, they might not be up to date.
